Potensic Atom don’t do it
Every year a toy-grade drone is pushed into the hands of YouTube reviewers and pundits ahead of Christmas. This year it’s the turn of the Potensic Atom.
I am seeing it on my YouTube and news feeds all the time. So much so on this Sunday morning that the shills have begun annoying me so I thought I would put something down.
To be fair it does look like quite a polished product but it will suffer as all cheap Chinese drones do.
No support and no parts once the season changes. Fake sensors and robust performance claims will lead to many Boxing Day cries for help on Facebook.
The first thing you should do when considering a first drone is see if a community exists on Facebook or elsewhere. No established community, don’t buy it.
If you are in the market for your first camera drone this Christmas you probably don’t want to hear that you will be better off saving a little more and picking up one of DJI’s last year’s models.
Cheaper older DJI drones will be all over the place on Cyber Monday and you will be entering an app, battery management and camera system that have been developed over many years and enjoy community support.
The Potensic Atom will have a shelf life because when you break something that’s where the rest of it will sit.
That said, I hope they do prosper and support becomes a thing, competition is good and I half wonder if Autel DNA is in this.
