XPONENTIAL features immersive workshops that provide opportunities for engagement and cooperation to those with similar interests on important issues facing our industry. These collaborative workshops provide XPONENTIAL attendees with an in-depth look into targeted topics and the solutions needed to harness the full potential of uncrewed technologies now and into the future.
LIMITED SPACE: UAS operation is a perishable skill. The workshop will focus on the need for reoccurring cost-efficient documented training for UAS operations in Public Safety. The session will be centered around identifying the need for a regular cadence of sustainment training and attendees will gain knowledge and expertise utilizing a UAS simulator in this hands-on experience. The workshop will be for 12-24 attendees at a time.
The room will be set up with 12 laptop computers with a UAS controller at each computer. The attendees will pair up and sit in front of a computer. The session will begin with a facilitated discussion utilizing a 30-minute PowerPoint slide deck identifying the session goal and associated learning objectives. After a question and answer period, the attendees will turn to their laptops for an explanation of how to use the simulator followed by a hands-on learning experience utilizing the UAS simulator with the hand controller.
There are people in (or about to be in) the autonomy game that must lead or otherwise work/communicate with autonomy practitioners that could benefit from a walkthrough of what makes something autonomous, what ingredients are required and where the challenges are. A sub-theme is pointing out the role and implications of AI and Machine Learning. The benefits are learning some of the lingo and acronyms, understanding the touchpoints with people and other parts of the system/vehicle and appreciating what is required to operationalize an autonomous system. Participants have the opportunity to break into small teams to work through an exercise to identify the needed sensors, understanding, decisions and behaviors to accomplish a certain mission.

Dark Wolf Solutions present our "Hack Our Drone" workshop providing participants the opportunity to exploit real-world vulnerabilities and chain them together to compromise an Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS). Vulnerabilities demonstrated in this workshop closely follow real-world examples found while performing UAS security assessments. The workshop is organized around four core components: Threat Modeling, Ground Control System, Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle, and Communications. Participants follow instructor-led guidance and documentation to find and exploit vulnerabilities in each of these components.
The United States Department of Defense and the US Government represent one of the largest markets in the world. In this interactive workshop, we'll break down the acronym soup, address entry points for small businesses, break down what "dual-use" means, and explore product-market fit with dual-use innovations. The government marketplace is a full-contact sport. This workshop is run accordingly and functions like a jiu-jitsu class. It is designed for the first-time student and the seasoned practitioner. Upper belts are expected to participate and work with lower belts during the breakout session. There's something for everyone to learn.
Included in this workshop will be a discussion on the integration of technologies needed for the success of expanded operations through autonomy and those areas that are still challenging to industry and regulators alike.
This workshop will describe the role of standards, solutions, and key challenges associated with system certification and operational approval that will enable increasingly autonomous flight routinely in civil airspace. Challenges will be described and discussed as it relates to many of the different use cases envisioned for increasingly autonomous flight, as well as potential solutions. Increasingly autonomous flights are where automation has increasing authority for flight control including decision-making that has previously been the prevue of human pilots. The potential contributions of standards and the standards development community in addressing these challenges will be discussed. Increasingly autonomous flights i.e., flights without human pilots being directly engaged with flight control) is envisioned in a variety of operational use cases including drone-based cargo delivery, urban air mobility (pax and cargo), regional air mobility, and high-altitude platform systems.

This workshop will provide an overview of AUVSI’s Trusted Cyber Program which will review of the voluntary certification program and the relevant cybersecurity guidelines and frameworks that make up the program.
Autonomy offers huge potential benefits across society, in the air, land, sea, and space domains. Everyone involved in autonomy development, from designers to end-users, regulators, and those involved in deploying and maintaining the supporting infrastructure, is doing their best to realize those benefits. So why is autonomy slow to live up to its promise, despite everyone’s best intentions? We suggest that one continuing challenge is communication failures that lead to mismatches between the understanding and assumptions of stakeholders involved in different stages of autonomy design, development, and the operationalization process.
This workshop will take a playful look at places these communication breakdowns can occur through a fun, hands-on design and test process. Participants will discuss real-world examples of autonomy successes and failures and look for common through lines that lead to these outcomes. A set of key lessons for increasing operational success will be shared, and the workshop will conclude with a discussion of how to apply these lessons to the development and operationalization of adaptive autonomy solutions across the expanding range of operating domains.
As flights become increasingly autonomous the current operating modes of Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) will not be adequate to enable their routine operation in civil airspace. This panel will examine the integration challenges and what is the potential blueprint for routine airspace integration of autonomous flight. Digital Flight is a Concept for a New Operating Mode that will enable flexibility through all aviation applications. Automation and connectivity are the key concepts that can be applied to multiple domains and use cases. This panel will bring together industry perspectives from General Aviation, Regional Air Mobility, and Urban Air Mobility. Aligning stakeholder objectives will be key to generating a change as substantial as Digital Flight and the panelist will discuss the objectives that they see and how those objectives overlap, align, and point towards a harmonized future.
This workshop invites SMEs, customers and other organizations to join for a journey into collaboration in their unique presentation focused on connecting companies together to provide innovative solutions to autonomous problems. With a chance to work alongside some of the other attendees at XPO as well as BAE Systems and their Small Uncrewed Systems team in breakout sessions, this workshop will be an interactive presentation culminating in a - first of its kind- live demonstration of a collaborative uncrewed ecosystem.
This collaborative workshop is the continuation of a lively discussion that began at XPO Orlando, and will also provide a summation of follow-on events that spread the discussion to other venues over this past year. The participants will discuss successes and opportunities for future successes in the partnership between Federal, Tribal, State and Local government in enabling repeatable Uncrewed operations. While sharing experiences, participants will highlight what worked well, what stalled progress, and how they found the path to enabling UAS operations that met local needs while satisfying state and federal requirements.
Takeaways from this workshop will include lessons learned at each level and opportunities to apply their models to other Federal, Tribal, State, and local government decision makers looking to coordinate UAS operations.

CAAMS aims to solve challenging problems in advanced air mobility through its participating faculty from six research universities: CU Boulder, BYU, Texas A&M, U Michigan, Virginia Tech and Penn State. Members join CAAMS to accelerate AAM through fundamental and applied research projects that move the industry forward. This workshop will share some of the early outcomes of CAAMS research but also review past achievements of the NSF Center for UAS that inspired CAAMS. Attendees will be asked, “What are your greatest AAM challenges?” to open a dialogue with faculty researchers and CAAMS members regarding industry pains. A value proposition canvas will be used as an interactive tool to solicit feedback.
