DJI Mavic 2 Pro Drone: Hands On Review | Gizmodo

DJI has a new drone and its camera is… huge. The Mavic 2 Pro sports a Hasselblad camera with a one-inch sensor capable of producing 20-megapixel images. It can record 4K video at up to 100 megabits per second. And while a one-inch sensor wouldn’t be big on a medium format camera, like the ones Hasselblad sells for thousands of dollars, it’s an impressive feat for a small folding drone like the Mavic 2. A bigger sensor means richer image quality and better performance in low light. The Mavic 2 Pro arrives at the same time as another new DJI drone: the Mavic 2 Zoom. While the Mavic 2 Zoom has the same, smaller sensor that’s in the original Mavic Pro, the Mavic 2 Zoom comes with a 2X optical zoom and 4X digital zoom. The ability to zoom with a tiny drone camera is unique. Most drone cameras just can’t do it. Both drones also come with new autonomous flight modes that make more cinematic shots even easier. What’s especially cool about the new DJI lineup is that the two camera systems are interchangeable. So the Hasselblad camera and gimbal from the Mavic Pro can be swapped out for the Mavic 2 Zoom camera and gimbal.

On top of the new camera features, both drones feature DJI’s first omnidirectional obstacle sensing, which uses 10 sensors on all sides of the aircraft that can spot and avoid obstacles. At the end of the day, the new Mavic 2 lineup is all about awesome cameras. There’s one with a huge new sensor, and another with optical zoom. These are two birds to watch..
